Police Arrest 14 Suspects, Recover Weapons and Cannabis in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended 14 suspects for various offences, including thuggery, drug possession, housebreaking, theft, and receiving stolen property across different parts of Minna, the state capital.In a statement issued on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrests followed a series of coordinated operations aimed at curbing crime and restoring peace in the metropolis.

He explained that the suspects were arrested during separate raids carried out by police operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit and other tactical teams. Items recovered from them include dangerous weapons, dried substances suspected to be cannabis, and other exhibits linked to criminal activities.Abiodun noted that the suspects confessed to various criminal acts during interrogation, including involvement in cult clashes and street fights that had recently disturbed public peace in some parts of Minna.

He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the groups, while all arrested suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu Dan-Mamman, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state, urging residents to support the police with timely and credible information about criminal activities in their communities.
