The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted 59 foreign nationals, including Chinese and Malaysian citizens, for their roles in a sophisticated cybercrime network dismantled by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).According to police authorities, the syndicate was responsible for large-scale online fraud operations targeting individuals and institutions across several countries.
The group was apprehended following months of coordinated surveillance and digital forensic investigations by the NPF-NCCC.During the court proceedings, the suspects were found guilty of various offenses, including identity theft, phishing, and illegal access to financial data. The court ordered the confiscation of items recovered from the suspects, such as laptops, phones, and SIM cards, all linked to fraudulent activities.
The police described the convictions as a significant victory in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against transnational cybercrime, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to cybersecurity and justice.
