Mali has introduced new visa rules requiring U.S. citizens to post bonds of up to $10,000 when applying for business or tourist visas. The government said the policy mirrors a similar measure recently imposed by Washington on Malian nationals, calling it a matter of β€œreciprocity and fairness.”According to Mali’s foreign ministry, the visa bond applies to short-term visitors and will be refunded once the traveler departs the country within the authorized period.

The move marks a fresh escalation in travel restrictions between the two countries, following strained diplomatic ties over governance and security issues in recent years.
