Dear Delta State Command,
This is a passionate appeal to your office to immediately investigate and address a disturbing incident involving some of your officers attached to the Safer Highways Patrol Team in Delta State. A viral video currently circulating on social media captures how these men allegedly abducted an innocent, expectant father who was simply returning home from his offshore job. The shocking incident reportedly took place at the Otokutu Bridge area, where the victim was intercepted without cause, harassed, and forcibly taken to an abandoned filling station in Udu.
According to eyewitness reports, the officers not only intimidated and unlawfully detained the man but also gained unauthorized access to his bank account. They allegedly used his phone to obtain a loan through a mobile loan application, withdrew the money through a POS operator, and shamelessly stole his personal belongings—including the meat, fish, crayfish, akamu, and other food items he was bringing home from work for his family.
To make matters worse, the victim is said to be an expectant father whose wife is 8 months pregnant, and the trauma from this incident has left her with pregnancy-induced high blood pressure. This is not just a case of financial theft, but a gross abuse of power, emotional torture, and a complete violation of human rights.
While it has been confirmed that the officers have since returned ₦200,000 out of the ₦202,000 unlawfully taken from the victim’s account, the stolen food items remain unaccounted for, and no concrete disciplinary action has been made public. We want to make it abundantly clear that this matter must not be swept under the carpet or treated as a minor issue that ends with the return of the stolen funds.
We are therefore calling on the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, to ensure that a full-scale investigation is launched immediately. The involved officers must be identified, arrested, and made to face appropriate disciplinary and legal actions. This act of lawlessness and criminal behavior from men who swore to protect lives and property cannot be ignored.
This is a crucial test for the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to justice, transparency, and integrity. The people deserve to see accountability, not cover-ups. If officers of the law continue to act like the very criminals they are meant to apprehend, then what hope remains for ordinary citizens?
We urge all Nigerians, especially residents of Delta State, to tag and demand accountability from relevant authorities, including Bright Edafe (PPRO Delta), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Delta State Government. Let us collectively ensure that justice is served and that these corrupt officers are permanently removed from the system.
