The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd.), has disclosed that the agency intercepted more than 1,000 kilograms of various illicit drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and cannabis, destined for Qatar in the past four years.Marwa made this known while receiving a delegation from the Qatar Embassy led by the Deputy Head of Mission, Ahmad Mohammed Al-Horr, at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.
He explained that the seizures were made through intelligence-driven operations at airports, seaports, and land borders, as part of the agency’s sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle international cartels operating within and outside Nigeria.According to him, the arrests and seizures reflect NDLEA’s commitment to preventing Nigeria from being used as a transit point for illicit drugs heading to other countries.“We have continued to strengthen our collaboration with international partners, and Qatar remains one of the destinations frequently targeted by traffickers,” Marwa said. “However, our proactive measures and intelligence-sharing mechanisms have enabled us to intercept and disrupt several of these attempts.
”In response, Al-Horr commended the NDLEA for its unwavering efforts in combating drug trafficking and pledged stronger cooperation between Qatar and Nigeria in tackling the global drug menace.Marwa reaffirmed that the NDLEA would sustain its offensive against drug barons and syndicates, noting that international collaboration remains vital in achieving lasting success in the war against narcotics.
