Peter Obi’s narrative regarding the property’s ownership is inconsistent. He has variously claimed the property belongs to his family, then to an unnamed brother, and subsequently to a company where his brother reportedly works. It appears Peter Obi may not be directly connected to the property but rather has been enlisted to politicize and sensationalize a matter that should be resolved in court.
Nigeria operates under the rule of law, yet individuals like Peter Obi, who act as if they are above the law, contribute to lawlessness. If Mr. Obi were to provide balanced accounts of events, there would be less impunity in the country.
Peter Obi is aware that the judgment under which Mrs. Olorunlogbon took possession of the property, including its suit number, is clearly documented. Furthermore, the party for whom Peter Obi is advocating has already engaged in legal proceedings concerning the property. Instead of allowing the court to decide, Peter Obi has chosen to incite public sentiment, thereby undermining the judiciary and exposing court proceedings to ridicule through undue public opinion.
Beyond the court judgment, Mrs. Olorunlogbon possesses Certificates of Occupancy and other official government documents validating her ownership of the property. She is legally entitled to use the property as she sees fit until a court rules otherwise.
This public defiance of a valid court judgment by Peter Obi, through social media, mirrors previous actions by his principal’s associates, which were reported to the Zone 2 Police Headquarters in Lagos. Despite invitations confirmed by Peter Obi himself, these individuals failed to cooperate with the police.
Peter Obi has now resorted to self-help and extra-judicial methods via social media, which, in a lawful country like Nigeria, constitutes brazen contempt of court.
We challenge whoever has engaged Peter Obi to present their documents to counter Mrs. Olorunlogbon’s ownership documents. The court will then deliver its judgment, and that will resolve the matter conclusively.
