Four Nigerian stowaways, desperate to escape their country’s economic hardships, were dramatically rescued in the Atlantic Ocean after being thrown overboard by the crew of a foreign vessel. The young men had secretly boarded the ship hoping to reach foreign shores, but their discovery by the crew allegedly led to them being violently cast into the open sea.

A Miraculous Rescue

The perilous situation was averted thanks to the rapid response of a maritime logistics company owned by France-based Ekiti-born business mogul, Mr. Harrison Niyi Alonge. Olawale Ezekiel, the firm’s public relations officer, stated on Thursday, May 22, 2025, that a crew led by a captain detected suspicious movement in the waters and raised the alarm. Alonge immediately ordered an emergency operation.

“All four victims were found alive but clearly traumatized. They are now in stable condition and receiving proper care. Their survival is nothing short of a miracle,” the statement read. “They were clinging to debris, weak and barely able to call for help. We acted quickly. Another few minutes, and they might not have made it.”
The rescued individuals – James John, Favour Efe, Kingsley Williams, and Kingsley Mathew – have since been handed over to the Nigerian Navy at the Navy Base Atlas Cove, Takwa Bay, for further care and debriefing.
