A tragic incident has occurred in the Tashan Tabo district of Tafawa Balewa local government area in Bauchi State, where a housewife, Ummi Lukman, is alleged to have fatally stabbed her husband, Lukman Husaini, a 36-year-old man.
The event took place in the early hours of Friday, February 21, 2025.
According to Abdullahi Jibrin, the deceased’s brother, Ummi confessed to stabbing Lukman in the chest.
The motive behind this horrific act appears to be Lukman’s stated intention to reconcile with his former wife, a woman whom Ummi had allegedly persuaded him to divorce.
Abdullahi explained that Ummi had displayed increasing aggression in the days leading up to the incident, and the family had observed her clear resentment towards Lukman’s plan to reunite with his ex-wife.
Abdullahi Jibrin provided a harrowing account of the scene, stating that they arrived to find Lukman’s body in a pool of blood near the gate, where he had seemingly collapsed while trying to call for help. He further revealed that Ummi had discarded the alleged murder weapon, a knife, into the latrine.
The brother described the extent of the tragedy, noting that bloodstains were visible throughout the house, from the bedroom to the compound.
The couple’s marriage, which had lasted only a year, was reportedly fraught with discord.
Abdullahi mentioned that family members had previously cautioned Lukman about Ummi’s violent tendencies.
He recounted a prior incident, just weeks before the fatal stabbing, where Ummi had allegedly poured hot water on Lukman, causing him severe burns.
Zaliha Idris, Lukman’s sister, spoke of her brother as a kind and gentle soul. Visibly distressed, she struggled to contain her tears as she expressed the family’s grief. She stated that while their mother believes Ummi should face the death penalty, the family chooses to leave the matter in God’s hands.
Adding to the account, Amadu Jibrin, who acted as Lukman’s marital guardian, revealed that the family had repeatedly advised Lukman to divorce Ummi due to her disturbing behavior. This tragic event underscores the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of addressing such issues before they escalate to such extremes.
