The Nigerian Army has dismantled a major bandit network in Zamfara State following a coordinated military operation that led to the neutralisation of scores of terrorists.
The operation, carried out by troops under ongoing counter-insurgency and anti-banditry efforts in the North-West, targeted known bandit enclaves and logistical routes used by criminal groups to launch attacks on communities.
According to military sources, several bandits were killed during intense exchanges of gunfire, while weapons, ammunition and other operational items were recovered. The successful offensive is believed to have significantly disrupted the activities and movement of the criminal network operating across parts of Zamfara.
However, the Army confirmed that the operation came at a cost, as some soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty. Others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving medical attention.
The Nigerian Army described the fallen soldiers as heroes who paid the ultimate price in the fight against insecurity, extending condolences to their families. It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on bandit groups and restoring peace to troubled communities in Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
Residents of affected areas have welcomed the operation, expressing hope that sustained military action will reduce attacks, kidnappings and other crimes linked to banditry.
The Army assured Nigerians that operations against banditry and other criminal threats will continue until lasting security is achieved.
