According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred while worshippers were inside the mosque. A man suddenly attacked the cleric and slit his throat, leaving him dead on the spot. The motive behind the attack is still unclear.
Following the killing, the suspect attempted to flee but was chased by angry residents. He was eventually caught and lynched by a mob before security operatives could intervene.
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and the events that led to the mob action. The police also warned against jungle justice, urging residents to allow law enforcement agencies carry out their duties.
Authorities have since restored calm in the area as investigations continue.
