Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has died at the age of 60 after collapsing in his office in Yenagoa on Thursday.
Sources said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. while he was attending to official duties at Government House. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where medical personnel battled to resuscitate him.
Despite the efforts of doctors, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The sudden passing of Ewhrudjakpo has thrown the state into mourning, with government officials, political associates, and residents expressing shock at the news. As of press time, the Bayelsa State Government had yet to issue an official statement, but senior officials confirmed the development.

Ewhrudjakpo, a former senator who represented Bayelsa West, served as deputy governor under Governor Douye Diri from 2020 until his death. His tenure was marked by active involvement in governance, infrastructure oversight, and peace-building initiatives across the state.
Further details surrounding the cause of death are expected to be released after official medical examination and a formal government announcement.
