During an X Space session titled “Weekend Politics,” former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi announced his bid for the Nigerian presidency in 2027. He promised a radical overhaul of the country’s governance, pledging to replace the current system of indigeneship with citizenship rights.
Amaechi made a bold promise: “If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation.”
The former Rivers State governor also accused influential figures of “stealing public funds” from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), stating that these resources could otherwise be used to address the country’s security and economic challenges. He described the current INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, as the “worst” in Nigeria’s history.
Additionally, Amaechi stated he would not reverse the removal of fuel subsidies. Instead, he promised to channel the savings directly to ordinary citizens, bypassing the elite.
He also challenged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to a walk through the streets of Port Harcourt to prove who is healthier and more popular with the people.
