News

The Federal Government has praised the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for its generous donation of $265,854 to assist Nigerians stranded in South Africa amid growing concerns over xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the donation, made through RCCG under the leadership of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, will be used to facilitate the safe return of affected Nigerians who have expressed a desire to come back home.

The ministry disclosed that the funds are expected to cover the cost of approximately 500 one-way flight tickets, providing a lifeline for many citizens facing hardship and insecurity in South Africa.

Government officials described the gesture as a timely intervention, noting that it demonstrates compassion, patriotism, and support for Nigerians in distress abroad. The ministry also expressed appreciation to RCCG and its leadership for partnering with the government in addressing the challenges faced by citizens outside the country.

The development comes amid renewed reports of xenophobic and Afrophobic incidents targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa, prompting concerns for the safety and well-being of affected communities, including Nigerians.

Authorities assured that arrangements are being made to ensure a smooth evacuation process for those willing to return, while reiterating the government’s commitment to protecting the interests of Nigerians wherever they may be.
