A serving Nigerian military intelligence officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, was reportedly shot dead after resisting an attempted abduction by armed men at his residence in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, July 27, 2026, shortly after the senior officer arrived home. According to security sources, the attackers ambushed him as he stepped out of his vehicle and attempted to abduct him.
Rather than surrender, Colonel Ude reportedly fought back despite being outnumbered, preventing the gunmen from taking him away. The assailants then allegedly opened fire on him at close range, killing him at the scene.
During the attack, the gunmen also shot his wife, driver, and security guard, leaving them with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. They were rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Colonel Ude, who was from Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to be due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year. He was also known as an Igbo Muslim.
His burial is scheduled to take place at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja in accordance with Islamic rites. Authorities have not yet released further details on the attackers or confirmed any arrests as investigations continue.
